About Francesca Schomberg
Francesca Schomberg-Solano began her formal art training at age 15 when she was awarded a 3-year scholarship to study at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts in Massachusetts. She graduated from State Teachers College at Boston in 1960 earning a B.S. degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Art. Francesca spent 17 years in New York City trying her hand in the theatre arts while taking classes in various art media at local colleges, universities, and the Art Students League. She was awarded 1st Prize in Photography in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, for 'Remembering Rose', and Honorable Mention for Printmaking at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC for 'Cubicle'. Francesca began a teaching career at schools in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Queens while raising a family. She eventually moved to California and worked as a commercial artist in Palo Alto until acquiring a position as an acting and stage craft instructor at a local high school where she directed several dramas and musicals. She moved on to Davis, and eventually settled in Sacramento where she worked full time for the Sacramento City Unified School District as a Kindergarten and First Grade teacher. The district granted her a Master of Fine Arts equivalency certification to teach art in grades K-9. Francesca developed an art program at her school to enable her colleagues to integrate art offerings into their educational programs. Holding school-wide art classes in the afternoons, and conducting two age level art clubs, she directed annual art exhibitions to showcase the talents of the students. After 40 years of teaching service, Francesca retired, but continued to return to her school to assist teachers to bring art education into their classrooms. Since March of 2020, Francesca has remained at home, and focused her energies primarily on her art career. Her modern abstract painting was featured on the cover of the October 2021 issue of 'Inside Sacramento'. That same year her figurative work 'La Bella Figura' sold on PBS KVIE TV's October 3rd Art Auction. Francesca's work, 'Autumn Joy', was accepted into Crocker art Museum 'Big Names, Small Art' Auction, and sold online June 4th, 2022. The 2023 donation, 'Infinita' has been sold. "Hope" will be auctioned in 2024. Her oil painting, 'Movie Night, NYC-1967' was auctioned on PBS KVIE's live Art Auction event and sold October 2nd, 2022. Her work "The Little Flower" was auctioned October, 2023. Public art events are posted online at: Francesca Schomberg-Solano. Francesca is sponsored by Fine Art America, and her art images may be viewed on her website: francesca-schomberg.pixels.com. She is a supporting member of the Verge Center for the Arts, Crocker Art Museum, The Kingsley Art Club, Northern California Arts, Sacramento Fine Arts Center, and Blue Line Arts, where "Lottery for the Arts", February 10th contained the artworks, 'Iu Mien Mother and Child' and 'Covid 19 ER' which were additionally sold. Francesca instructed a six-session class, 'Art for the Ageless' at the ACC Senior Services in Sacramento, August 25th through September 29th, 2022. Art classes were held at ACC Senior Services February 15 - March 22, 2023, with 'Expressions & New Explorations'. The next installment began May 25-June 29, 2023 at ACC and continued through August and September. These are online and in-person hybrid classes. Classes resumed February 22, 29th, March 21st and 28th, 2024 and featured instruction in printmaking, textural paste, sculpture, and Sumi-e painting.
